We accept one fellow per year. As with most Fellowship Program, this is not an approved ACGME fellowship position. It is, however, affiliated with an ACGME accredited Ophthalmology Residency Program. Malpractice insurance will be provided by the University was well as medical, dental, and other benefits. After beginning this fellowship, you will attend a scheduled orientation to explain in detail all benefits you and your family are eligible to receive. This is a one-year position beginning July 1 and through June 30 of the following year. Arriving after July 1 may be approved as vacation.
We provide a very busy clinical exposure to all aspects of glaucoma with a heavy emphasis on surgical treatment. A large number of glaucoma procedures as well as phacoemulsification will be part of this surgical experience. The fellow will work closely with Alan S. Crandall, M.D., Professor, Norman A. Zabriskie, M.D., Associate Professor, and Jason Goldsmith, M.D., assistant professor. Teaching responsibilities as well as clinical research will be part of this fellowship.
If selected for this position, you will be required to obtain a Utah Medical License, a Utah Controlled Substance License, and a DEA License. The total cost will be your responsibility. You will be required to obtain privileges with the University Hospital, Veterans Administration Medical Center and Primary Children’s Medical Center. All fees for privileges will be reimbursed by the Department of Ophthalmology. University policy requires original receipts for reimbursement. We will work closely with you to meet these requirements.
You will also be required to sign a fellowship agreement. Included within this agreement is a covenant not to compete: “Upon termination or expiration of fellowship training/employment with University for any reason whatsoever, fellow agrees that for a period beginning with the date of termination and continuing for two full years thereafter, fellow shall not, either directly or indirectly, within Wasatch or Summit Counties; to include the entire Wasatch Front, engage in the practice of ophthalmology, either as an employee, individual, proprietorship, partner, shareholder, associate or consultant.”
