A few interesting facts about me:

Over the past 2 years Salt Lake City has been my home, though at other times I have lived in Seattle, Taipei, New Haven, New York and Paris. I was born at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York City, where my parents were faculty- that is how my name came to be Albert. Later after growing up some years in New York, my family traveled to Paris and Taipei for sabbaticals. While in Taiwan during high school, I learned first-hand about my cultural heritage that my parents had taught me as a child in America. For college, I moved to Yale where I decided to major in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry because I wanted to pursue a career in medicine and science.

Since I had learned a great deal about Eastern philosophy and history while living in Taiwan and had anticipated having less time to devote to the humanities as my career developed, I participated in the 'Directed Studies' program to obtain a background in Western civilization and thought. This left me with a continued interest in literature, philosophy, and political thought. Upon graduating, I left for Seattle - looking to get a change from the East coast environment- and began studying at the University of Washington MD-PhD program. Little did I know that I would be there for 10 years, where completed medical school and studied signal transduction (how cells talk and respond to each other at the molecular level) for my graduate studies. During my clinical rotations, I enjoyed Ophthalmology the most, and decided to come to the Moran Eye Center for residency because of their excellent surgical training and outstanding research opportunities.

Outside of my career pursuits, I participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, the most time consuming of which is Ultimate Frisbee. I play with the nationally ranked Salt Lake City coed Ultimate team, and have fun playing in local tournament and pickup as well. In addition to this wonderful form of exercise and competition, I try to explore the endless trails and outdoor activities available here, and within 25 minutes can hop onto a ski lift or step onto a trailhead. My other loves include trumpet and piano playing, and swing and ballroom dance. I find these days as a resident immensely busy but incredibly satisfying- packed with study, work, and fun.
