Residency Program
Course # 7590–Preceptorship in Ophthalmology: Research
Prerequisite
Senior medical student; Junior medical students will also be considered.
Rotation
Medical student will rotate through specialty clinics with the assigned faculty member and will be involved in all clinical conferences.
Learning Objectives
This elective is designed for medical students who are particularly interested in the possibility of a career in ophthalmology and desire an in-depth experience in some of the newer facets of ophthalmic research. Student must discuss proposed project with one of the Ophthalmology faculty and obtain advanced approval to rotate with this faculty. A more basic research is also available in conjunction with the Ophthalmic Pathology Laboratory and the Intermountain Ocular Research Center.
Testing
Testing to be proctored by the Ophthalmology’s Academic Office.
Evaluation Criteria
- Evaluations have been computerized and will be coordinated by the Ophthalmology’s Academic Office
- Evaluations will be completed by the resident or faculty on rotation with the medical student
- Evaluations are signed by Mark D. Mifflin, M.D., Director of Education
- Originals are sent to Margie Thompson, Student Affairs; copies are kept on file in the Ophthalmology’s Academic Office
Time - Variable: 1 student per faculty member
