Moran Eye Center

Residency Program

Welcome to the Moran Eye Center

Photo of Randall J Olson, M.D., CEOSince June 1979, the ophthalmology program at the University of Utah School of Medicine has offered excellent didactic training and a surgical experience unmatched by any other program in the country. With the opening of the 82,500 square foot John A. Moran Eye Center in 1993, the enrichment provided by a superb research group and increased subspecialty patient volumes, the residency experience continued to improve. In 2006, we opened our new 200,000 square foot facility that will again help take our residency program to a new level.

Competition between fellows and residents is a concern in many programs. Our primary focus has always been the residency and, while we have superb fellowship experiences, there is sufficient volume and activity to ensure there is no competition between the two groups in regard to clinical or surgical experience. All fellowships have been crafted to mesh perfectly with our residency in a way that enhances to the whole experience.

With our spectacular mountains, world class skiing and a gorgeous desert country, Salt Lake continues to be ranked among the top cities in which to live. Combined with a population known for friendliness, as well as an urban area without many of the typical urban problems, I am confident the postgraduate positions available at the John A. Moran Eye Center will provide a superb overall experience.

We appreciate your consideration.
