Research Interest: Molecular biology of inherited retinal diseases
Dr. Baehr and Dr. Frederick are trying to understand the requirements for a photoreceptor cell to be maintained in a healthy state. If, for example, a normal cell protein changes, would there be consequences to the normal function of the photoreceptors? Apparently minor and simple changes in a normal cellular protein may have grave consequences for photoreceptor function, and ultimately, retinal health. The research being done in the labs of Drs. Baehr and Frederick will eventually lead us to a better understanding of inherited retinal diseases so that we may devise a repair or treatment procedure.
