Moran's Abraham Granados Jr. Awarded Prestigious University Staff Excellence Award for 2010
Abraham Granados, an Ophthalmic Medical Technician here at the Moran Eye Center, received a 2010 University of Utah Staff Excellence Award.
The University Staff Excellence Awards (USEA) began in 1992 in an effort to recognize outstanding service and work of members of the University's full-time staff. Each district narrows down hundreds of nominations and 24 district winners are selected. From those 24, a committee coordinated by the Chair of the U of U Staff Council chooses the top six candidates who have proven their service and dedication to their work and have gone above and beyond the requirements of their positions. Abraham and the other five winners of the coveted University of Utah Staff Excellence Award were announced at the District Awards luncheon held on September 2. Abraham and the others received a $5,000 honorarium and an engraved plaque. Their names will also be added to a plaque which is permanently displayed in the Human Resources building.
Abraham, originally from Guatemala, received his M.D. from the University of San Carlos and practiced as a general surgeon before relocating to the United States with his wife. He became an ophthalmic technician at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA where he worked for 14 years. Abraham moved to Utah to raise a family and loves outdoor activities such as camping and playing basketball.
Abraham's dedication to assisting patients and providing superior service for his six years at the Moran Eye Center put him above the rest and earned him this prestigious award.
Congratulations Abraham!
