MORAN GROUP HELPS WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY AT AAO IN NEW ORLEANS
Salt Lake City, Utah
December 28, 2007

This year the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) in New Orleans launched a program called EyeBuild and partnered with the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity to build houses in the residential areas hit hardest by Katrina.
Alan and Julie Crandall and Dr. Nick Mamalis from the Moran Eye Center strapped on construction belts and began hammering. They worked in the devastated outer neighborhoods of New Orleans such as the lower ninth ward, where the residents still are in great need of help.
The event was open to all meeting attendees and exhibitors and no special skills or fitness level was required to participate. Training took place on site. The donation cost was $25 and the event ended up not only raising homes, but with a donation of more than $16,000 toward future efforts in the area.
Thanks so much Alan, Julie and Nick for helping those who need our help so much.
