DR. CRANDALL WINS HEALTHCARE HERO AWARD FOR HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS

Salt Lake City, Utah
December 28, 2007

Moran's surgeon, Dr. Alan Crandall was recently named a recipient of a Utah Business 2007 Healthcare Heroes Award. Dr. Crandall was given the award in the humanitarian category for his extensive work providing life-changing and often life-saving eye surgery in Ghana, West Africa, a country that has less than 50 ophthalmologists and a population of 22 million people.

Over the years Dr. Crandall and other doctors from the Moran Eye Center have helped more than 2,000 people improve or regain their sight. "In Ghana 750,000 people are waiting for cataract surgery and the majority of them are blind. It's an honor to have helped so many people in West Africa, yet we can only put a small dent in this problem," Dr. Crandall says. He believes that training ophthalmologists and other health care workers within the local community is the answer to the problem and he does this whenever he visits the country.

Congratulations Dr. Crandall, on this wonderful award and thank you for all you do to improve lives around the world.
