John A. Moran Eye Center ophthalmic photographer Paula Morris, C.R.A., F.O.P.S., was recently elected president of The Ophthalmic Photographers' Society (OPS). The Ophthalmic Photographers Society is an international non-profit organization dedicated to a highly specialized form of medical photography pertaining to the field of ophthalmology. The main objectives of the Society are to provide primary and continuing education in the field of ophthalmic photography, to set and maintain standards for the profession through a multi-level certification program and to promote scientific advancement in the technology. Members of the Ophthalmic Photographers Society perform photography of all structures of the eye using highly specialized equipment. They are healthcare professionals who increase the level of care to patients and help to advance the science of ophthalmology. As president, Paula will be responsible for presiding over the OPS Board of Directors, over the administration OPS business, and serve as an ex-officio member of the Boards of Education and Certification.
Dr. Randall J Olson, CEO, Moran Eye Center and Chair Ophthalmic and Visual Sciences, University of Utah, had this to say about Paula: "Paula has been with us from the beginning. She is the consummate professional and responsible for putting the Moran Eye Center in the forefront of national and international ophthalmic imaging. She has helped bring relief to thousands of patients with her special skills. This honor is well deserved and is a symbol of her many years of hard work, leadership and groundbreaking studies of the visual system through the lens of photography. She will be an exceptional leader of this important organization of professionals in the field of ophthalmology."
All clinical images (which are medical records) produced by members of the Moran Ophthalmic Photography and Videography Department, whether photographic studies or scans, are placed in an electronic database which can be remotely accessed by the physicians, significantly improving our patient care and satisfaction. The department also provides imaging services for research through numerous multi-centered clinical trials, and documentation of projects generated by various Moran research laboratories.
In addition, Paula and members of the team provide academic support to the Moran faculty, providing computer and graphic services for lecture and publication production, and award winning video editing. The Moran Ophthalmic Photography and Videography Department consists or Paula Morris, C.R.A., F.O.P.S., Jim Gillman, C.R.A., Glen Jenkins, C.R.A., Cyrie Fry, C.R.A., and videographer Randal Miller, B.A. The photographers have all earned the title of Certified Retinal Angiographer (C.R.A.) from the Ophthalmic Photographers Society. Collectively, they have over 73 years of ophthalmic imaging experience.
