Pyogenic Granuloma

Up

Clinically this entity appears as a fleshy, red, often pedunculated lesion arising as a consequence of some other inflammatory process such as a chalazion, severe blepharitis, or foreign body reaction (#21880).  The name is a double misnomer--the lesion is neither pyogenic nor a granuloma.  Pathologically, it is an inflammatory lesion composed of granulation tissue (proliferative connective tissue--fibroblasts and fibrocytes--and newly formed capillary channels) with interspersed acute and chronic inflammatory cells (#21883)

(#21882).
