Malignant Melanoma

Up

Malignant melanomas of the lid, although uncommon, may occur spontaneously or secondary to malignant transformation of a pre-existing nevus.  Histopathologically (#21871), the tumor cell type is similar to that seen in malignant melanoma of the skin rather than that of the globe.  The cells may show a spindle-type configuration or an epithelioid- type of configuration with marked cellular dysplasia and invasion into the dermis of the lid (#21873).
