Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Up

Clinically, these lesions appear as an elevated, thickened area of epithelium which may have an ulcerated or friable surface (#21858).  Histopathologically (#21859), the lesion is characterized by invasion of malignant squamous cells into the dermal tissue.  These cells are large and stain a light pink in color with marked nuclear dysplastic changes.  They often tend to show abnormal deep keratinization or dyskeratosis and sometimes form nests with whorls or pearls of keratinized material.

-(#28118) is another slide showing squamous cell carcinoma of the eyelid.
