Orbital Lymphangioma

Up

This lesion is seen most frequently in young children.  The tumor tends to be diffuse and poorly outlined in the orbit.  This lesion may wax and wane in size, especially when the child has an upper respiratory infection.  Occasionally these tumors may undergo a rapid expansion in size when there is an acute hemorrhage in one of the tumor spaces forming a large, chocolate cyst.  Histopathologically, the lesion is composed of multiple, irregular-shaped lymphatic channels which are lined by flatten endothelial cells (#22126) (#22125).  These lesions may also have large follicles or collections of lymphoid cells located within the walls of the lesion.
