Community Outreach

Empowering women of all ages with the knowledge to improve their health and the health of their families.

The Community Outreach and Public Education Committee will develop a plan to improve access to care and preventive services for underserved women facilitate clinical referrals, and promote women's health education.

The impetus of the plan will be two fold: 1) health information resource driven; utilizing existing resources and advanced data networking from the Eccles Health Sciences Library including Utahealthnet and multilingual resources within the 24 Languages Project (http://medstat.med.utah.edu/24languages) and 2) community driven; primarily by information obtained from the women who could access the services, followed by women's community group representatives and health care and social support providers within the community.

In order to facilitate the provision of reliable, timely and appropriate health information, Resource Centers will be established at each clinical site to serve patients and designated at the Eccles Library to support each of the components of the CoE project.

Statewide and local outreach will be facilitated by fostering a relationship between the CoE and the health information professionals at Eccles Library. The CoE will collaborate with EHSL to provide high-quality health information to consumers and providers at point of care as well as statewide whenever needed.

With the increasing ethnic minority population in Utah, a large component of community outreach and education will require culturally sensitive care and language appropriate resources and education. Existing facilities, South Main Clinic and Ellis R. Shipp Clinics are excellent links to health care. Campaigns to improve patient access and education will be augmented by the identification of deficiencies and the creation of evidence-based measures, with the intent of improving public education for women, their families and community providers.
