University of Utah Orthopedic Surgery Center
The University of Utah Orthopedic Surgery Center will open its doors in Fall of 2004. This 100,000 square foot facility, prominantly located in Research Park on the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Wakara Way, will serve as the new home for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. The Department of Orthopedics and the University Hospitals and Clinics have entered into a partnership to construct and operate the new Orthopedic Surgery Center as an efficient, patient friendly, state-of-the-art, clinical and academic facility. Further, it will support the teaching and research mission of the Department of Orthopedics while enhancing the position of the University Hospitals and Clinics as the premier Orthopedic facility in the Intermountain West. The new facility will draw together various Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal clinical activities currently operating in sites around the University and the Salt Lake Valley. The Orthopedic Clinic at the University Hospitals and Clinics will be relocated to the new facility, as will the Red Butte Sports Medicine Clinic and Physical Therapy. The Spine Rehab Center and Occupational Therapy will also move to the new location. This new 3-story facility will include an outpatient clinic with over 40 exam rooms, a physical therapy exercise and treatment facility (including a therapy pool), an outpatient surgical center with 4 operating rooms and 2 procedure rooms, a patient observation wing with 6 patient rooms, digital radiography and MRI facilities, an outpatient pharmacy, and office space for the Department of Orthopedics, its billing office and resident programs. The University of Utah Orthopedic Surgery Center will be a true center of excellence and a prominant leader in patient care, research and education throughout Utah and the Intermountain West.
