RDEP-Creighton Regional Dental Education Program (RDEP-Creighton)
The Regional Dental Education Program (RDEP-Creighton) is a cooperative dental education program between the State of Utah and Creighton University School of Dentistry. It is designed to provide a quality dental education program for Utah residents. The RDEP-Creighton program has ten positions available each year for Utah residents. Applicants must have been residents of the State of Utah for five years at the time of application and those students admitted to the program will receive the first year of their training at the University of Utah. The remainder of their training will take place at the dental school facilities at Creighton University (located in Omaha, NE), which is serving as the parent dental school. This arrangement provides access to a quality dental education program at a reasonable tuition rate while allowing students to remain in Utah for a portion of their education.
Beginning with the entering class of 2004, the Utah State Legislature initiated some changes in the tuition payment and program financing. During the first year at Utah (2011-2012) the student will pay the equivalent of Utah's Medical School in-state tuition (currently $28,735 per year, plus approximately $5,176 for instruments and supplies). For the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years at Creighton University, the student will pay Creighton's regular tuition, currently at $50,542 per year. Upon graduation and/or graduate training, and if the student returns to the State of Utah to practice dentistry full time, the RDEP program will reimburse the student $20,000 per year for three years; thus reducing the total tuition for dental education.
Application to the program should be made to Creighton University in the regular manner through the AADSAS application program. Creighton will identify you as a potential applicant for the RDEP-Creightom Program, based on your Utah residency and send supplemental application material. The application should be completed no later than December 1, 2011, but early application is highly recommended because dental schools begin their class selection early and will notify students starting December 1, 2011. The application and acceptance procedure is through the normal mechanisms and committees at Creighton University. Remember, selections for this program will begin December 1, 2011 from completed applications.
