Q: Are gift certificates and gift cards taxable compensation?
A: Yes, cash payments, gift certificates
and gift cards are considered compensation, regardless of amount or value. Payroll requires electronic reporting of this information via the gift certificate reporting file (an ecel spreadsheet). The spreadsheet should include information which can be obtained from the department payroll reporter. Attach the sheet to check request and send to Accounts Payable.
