Workstation and Application Environment
for University Hospitals & Clinics

About the Workstation & Application Committee (WAC)

The Workstation and Applications Committee will act as a clearinghouse and approval body for all changes that will impact the desktop environment at the University Hospitals & Clinics.

The Workstation and Applications Committee is authorized to:
  • Determine standard hardware to be used.
  • Determine standard operating system.
  • Determine methods for authentication.
  • Review and approve or deny any software packages to be used on the workstation; refer to the Computer Workstation policy for the Review Process
  • Determine how software will be delivered to the workstation.
  • Develop and implement a quality assurance process for requesting, testing, approving, documenting, and implementing changes to the workstation, including:
    • patches
    • applications
    • operating systems
    • software packages
  • Determine process for requesting changes to the workstation environment, including response time and appropriate service level agreement.
  • Determine the appropriate methods to implement:
    • asset (hardware) inventory
    • software inventory
    • patch management
    • antivirus/mal-ware management
    • printer management
    • license management

A Directory Services Steering Committee has been formed to address a core component of the desktop and application services, a robust directory service. The two major Directory Services at the University Hospitals & Clinics are Novell's Directory Services (NDS) and Microsoft's Active Directory.

Changes to the existing NDS or AD environments must be approved by the Directory Services Steering Committee.
