Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the Benefits of a patch management agent?
A: Benefits of the patch management agent include:
  • Increased productivity and more efficient services. Virus patches can now be applied remotely by ITS eliminating the need for individual users to apply their own, thus minimizing the impact on end-users.
  • Enhanced Privacy & Security. Integrity of health information data, and privacy and security are enhanced, and University equipment is better protected.
  • Consistent environment.
  • New computers.
  • Auto-update feature will be turned off. Once the patch management agent is installed, the auto-update feature will be turned off on all Windows XP machines. This will allow ITS to install the Microsoft Windows Service Pack 2 (SP2), while ensuring there are no conflicts with hardware or software curently supported by ITS.
