Desktop Users Patch Alert
Note: Clinical Workstations (such as Citrix Metaframe) will be patched by your HSC/ITS Computer Professional.

Security Threat 7/30/2004

Affected Desktop Operating Systems:
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows 2000
Windows ME (critical updates only - recommended)
Windows 98 (critical updates only - recommended)


**Linux, Unix variants, and Macintosh computers are not affected by this vulnerability.
Clinical workstations, such as Citrix Metaframe, will be patched by HSC/ITS computer professionals.

How to apply the security patches or updates
ATTENTION: You must use Microsoft's Internet Explorer Browser!
  1. Click on http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
  2. Click the Scan for Updates link
  3. Click the Critical Updates and Service Packs link
  4. Click on Review and Install Updates and follow the instructions
  5. You will need to reboot your computer when you are finished with these steps.
  6. Repeat this process until the number 0 shows next to Critical Updates and Service Packs link

Your computer is now up-to-date with all Microsoft security patches.

If there is a 0 next to the Critical Updates and Services Packs link, your computer is already patched. No further action is necessary.
If you have auto updates enabled on your computer, it will already be patched and secure. The Office of Information Security recommends you ask you computer support professional about enabling auto updates on your desktop workstations.
