An International Education
From its inception, the Moran Eye Center has an uninterrupted record of charitable
international outreach. The tradition is ingrained in our education programs, and all
of our residents and fellows have opportunities to carry out multiple missions in countries
where eye care is lacking. Working with Dr. Geoffrey Tabin, Director of the Moran
Division of International Outreach, Moran residents Drs. Darcy Wolsey, Rachel Horn,
Alan McInnis and Dan Kline recently traveled to Katmandu, Nepal to perform cataract
surgery and other procedures including cataract transplants at the Tilganga Eye Hospital.
In addition, Moran fellow Dr. Rishi Kumar worked with Drs. Alan Crandall,
Robert Hoffman and Geoffrey Tabin in Ghana in March. A recent Moran Fellow, Dr. Huck Holz, who also carried out service in Nepal, spent most of July working in Ghana with Dr. Tabin as part of the United Nations Millennium Goals project. Residents and
interns get hands on experience training health care workers in developing countries
to help bring about local, self-sustaining ophthalmology care.
