OIPRT Curriculum

The general Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. requires a minimum of 24 semester course credits (post masters) and at least 14 credits of dissertation research. Of the 24 course credits, 18 must be in Mechanical Engineering courses, 8 of which must be at the 7000 level. The Ph.D. degree in the OIPRT program with emphasis in Occupational Safety Engineering requires a total of 41 course credits (post-master’s), 6 practicum credits and 14 dissertation credits for a total of 61 credits. (Students may enter the program without a master’s degree but will be required to take 13 additional course credits.)

The general Public Health Ph.D. requires a minimum of 47 semester course credits, 6 practicum credits and 15 dissertation credits for a total of 68 credits. The Ph.D. degree in the OIPRT program with emphasis in Occupational Injury Epidemiology mirrors the Public Health requirements exactly (47 course credits including prerequisites, 6 practicum credits, 15 dissertation credits, 68 total credits.)
