Our Mission

Put your photo here The purpose of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit is to provide competent and compassionate care to the patients of University Hospitals and Clinics experiencing life-threatening disruption of the normal hemodynamic mechanisms of one or more body systems.

Patients have physical, psychosocial, spiritual, educational, and economic needs which comprise the total person and our responsibility is to assist them in optimizing their state of wellness.

An integral part of our care delivery is the recognition of the contribution and inclusion of family and significant others to the patient's recovery. The Surgical Intensive Care Unit recognizes that we are a part of the total hospital system and have a responsibility to work with other departments, health care professionals and ancillary services in:

  • providing
  • coordinating
  • evaluating
  • and improving patient care services.

The overall philosophy and objectives of the University of Utah Health Science Center are supported by the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
