Patients, Staff Celebrate U of U's 100th Lung Transplant

University Heath Care Transplant Center faculty, staff, and patients recently celebrated the program's 100th lung transplant. Patients, their families, and transplant staff reunited at the Medical Alumni Building for lunch and to tell their stories.

Stories and pictures from numerous patients and their families decorated the walls of the room where they met.

The 100th lung recipient, Kathleen Weinrib was on hand to thank everyone involved in giving her a second chance at life on Jan. 26, 2006.

Waiting lists for lungs are shorter in Utah than elsewhere, and that attracts patients to the university from Idaho, Neveda, Montana, and Wyoming, as well as Utah. "As the center grows, it will continue to provide high-quality care" Phillips says.
