The Lung Program
A Tradition of Excellence
The University of Utah Lung Transplant Program is a comprehensive program serving adult patients with end-stage pulmonary disease. In January of 1998 the Lung Transplant Program became a Medicare-approved center.
Expert Care
The Lung Transplant Program is administered by highly skilled professionals who possess in-depth clinical and scientific expertise in the field of transplantation medicine. The multidisciplinary transplant team includes pulmonologists, surgeons, registered nurse coordinators, dietitians, a licensed clinical social worker, psychologists, pharmacists and pulmonary rehabilitation specialists. The transplant team has extensive training and experience in all phases of care, from evaluation and selection of candidates through post-operative follow-up.
Patient Education and Support
Education and support for the lung transplant patient is a collaborative effort of allied health professionals who interact with patients during their care at the University. A series of transplant education classes are offered and coordinated by the Lung Transplant Social Worker. These classes are ongoing, rotating through a variety of topics to assure patients and family members a more complete educational foundation in the transplantation experience. In addition a support group is available to patients and family, offering the opportunity to talk through psychosocial issues in a more informal setting.
