Pregnancy in Transplant Patients

  • Are you a Daughter of a Kidney Transplant Patient?

  • Mother and Daughter, Pregnancy in Kidney Transplant Patients

Yes? We would like to hear from you.

We are conducting a telephone survey of daughters of renal transplant patients. The survey will contain questions about overall health such as infections, cancers, and chronic diseases. Also covered will be obstetric history such as infertility problems, pregnancy complications, route of delivery and health of child. If you are willing to participate in the study, your written consent will first be obtained. You will then be contacted to answer questions from a standard data form about your health and any pregnancies. The survey will take about 30 minutes.

This study has been approved by the University of Utah Institutional Research Board

    Qualifications- To participate you must:
    1. be female
    2. 18 years of age or older
    3. your mother was taking anti-rejection medications during the pregnancy. We are particularly interested in adult daughters of transplant patients who have themselves now had pregnancies.

    Are there health risks?

There is no risk to your health. The survey will be carefully explained and all questions answered in order to minimize any worries you might have.

The primary benefit to participants is reassurance that exposure to the anti-rejection medications before birth was not harmful (if this is confirmed). Should any unanticipated disorders, fertility or pregnancy problems be discovered, all participants will be informed and counseled appropriately. The results of this survey will also be valuable to future transplant patients and their physicians for counseling before attempting pregnancy.
