Dormitory Instructions

ARRIVAL - If you are arriving on SATURDAY, JUNE 14 report directly to Sage Point, Building 811, check-in time is after 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. They will have your reservation on our rooming list and will give you a key to your room. If you are arriving on SUNDAY, JUNE 15 before 3:00 p.m. go directly to Sage Point, Building 811 and check-in.  School check-in will be held on Sunday, June 15, 3:00-7:00 p.m. and Monday, June 16, 7:30-9:00 a.m., Union Building, 4th Floor, East Panorama Room at the University of Utah. Your room reservation will be held until 9:00 p.m. Monday, June 16 unless you inform our office of a later arrival. PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST ANY CHANGES IN YOUR ROOM ASSIGNMENT AT THE TIME OF CHECK IN. Our primary concern on Saturday and Sunday is to see that everyone is registered and settled for the night. Because of the large number of students who will be staying on campus, last-minute shifts create problems for everyone. If you have a special reason for requesting a change in your accommodations, you may contact the staff at the residence halls on Monday afternoon and they will be happy to make changes wherever possible. Every effort is made to accommodate your roommate request (male and female sharing room or bathroom must be a married couple). Please contact the School Office in the Union Building if you feel your request wasn't met. If for any reason you will not be staying on campus or are unable to attend the School, please let us know so that your room reservation can be canceled. If you decide not to stay after checking in, return your key to the Sage Point, Building 811 front desk. You are being charged for staying in the room as long as you have the key in your possession.

DEPARTURE - Checkout time on Friday, June 20, will be by 10:00 a.m. A luggage room will be provided for your personal belongings until after the School has ended. To check out, return your key to the Sage Point, Building 811 front desk. The front desk in Building 811 will be opened from 7:00 a.m. to 11:p.m. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU TURN IN YOUR ROOM KEY. A charge of $45 (which covers the cost of a new key and lock for the door) will be made to the individual if the key is not returned before you leave. To avoid being charged for a lost key, make sure the person taking your key marks off your name. If you are returning a key for someone else make sure his or her name is marked off before leaving.

FACILITIES - The University Residence Halls are dormitory-type facilities. Rooms have a twin size bed and a telephone is available on request. Rooms do not have a clock, reading lamp, radio, or television. All rooms are provided with linen which includes 2 sheets, 1 blanket, 1 pillow with pillowcase, 1 small hand towel, soap and a drinking cup per resident. Please bring your own bath size towel and your own pillow (only if you need more than one).  During the week you can contact the front desk in Building 811 if you want to exchange your linen for fresh linen (washcloths and extra toilet paper are available upon request at Sage Point, Building 811 front desk).  The room will be made up when you arrive, but you will be responsible for making up your own room and bathroom thereafter. Garbage receptacles are located in the hallway (look for signs) for you to empty your own garbage during the week. There is access to a refrigerator and microwave on each floor. For those needing refrigeration in their rooms (for medication) you would need to make arrangements in advance to rent one. If you have any problems or concerns while staying in the dorm, please inform the person at the front desk in Building 811 immediately upon encountering them. They want to provide you with the type of service you are expecting and should receive. There are elevators in Sage Point Hall, but please inform us if you prefer to be placed on the first floor. Utah State law prohibits smoking in public facilities. No smoking is allowed inside the building, including a single room. Smoking will be allowed outside of the dormitory only.

PARKING - You will need a PARKING PERMIT to park in the Sage Point parking lot as well as other lots on campus. This can be purchased in the Union Building Foyer during registration hours on Sunday and Monday. The fee is $5 per day for a permit that allows you to park in the Sage Point lot as well as the "A & U" lots on campus. A full week permit ($25) can be purchased in advance on the registration form. Cars will not be ticketed Saturday, June 14, or Sunday, June 15 (including the visitor parking lot across from the Union Building) except in reserved or restricted zones.

TRANSPORTATION - Sage Point is located on upper campus. A vehicle or the free Campus Shuttle Buses (which run Monday through Friday) will be needed to get to lower campus for classes. Extra shuttles will run from the Sage Point parking lot to the Union Building before and after the sessions. A time schedule will be provided in your packet at registration. You will want to wear comfortable shoes if you plan to walk to and from lower campus.

FOOD - The Heritage Center has a dining area and is located within walking distance of Sage Point. Meals are "all you can eat" with a different set price for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a convenience store (7-11 type) at the Heritage Center located on the first level. Meals can be purchased a la carte in the Union Building on lower campus.

TRANSPORTATION TO DOWNTOWN - The University Line of the Utah Transit Authority Trax System is operating for transportation from campus to downtown Salt Lake. A roundtrip pass for $3.50 is available for TRAX only. This fare is good for one roundtrip ride on TRAX. The roundtrip pass can only be purchased at a ticket vending machine. These machines are located at all TRAX stations. At the time of purchase, each ticked will be validated by the ticket vending machine and can be used for one roundtrip travel on TRAX for that day. Route schedules are available at the information desk in the Union Building.
