Tour of the Newborn Intensive Care Unit
The purpose of this web site is to provide parents and families an overview of the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital.
In addition to providing an overview of the unit, we hope to provide information that will be helpful to you in preparation for
your baby's admission to our unit.
We provide information about some of the more common problems that babies face that bring
them to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NBICU) and some of the problems they may encounter during their hospitalization. You will learn about the unit's
visitation guidelines, and you will find information about the important family role in the NBICU. Included in the tour you will learn what to expect upon
the admission of your baby to the NBICU. You will find descriptions of the equipment and monitoring that may be used in the care of your baby, and you will
be introduced to the many different staff that may be involved in your baby's care. You will also learn what needs to happen before a baby can go home.
